Nearly ever woman who has had kids wants to quickly get back to her pre-baby weight. But it isn’t easy. But, there may be a way to drop several sizes and a bunch of inches, with just one trip to the plastic surgeon. Call it the shrink wrap effect. Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Dustin Reid and Dr. Ashley Gordon who share a practice in Austin are among the first in the nation to pioneer and perfect the “Tummy Tuck 360“, which couples a tummy tuck and liposuction, providing the ultimate results for a woman wanting to reshape her mid-section after childbirth.
The Childbirth Effect On The Body
The tummy tuck, especially as part of a “Mommy Makeover“ is one of the most popular procedures in the realm of cosmetic surgery. The “tummy tuck” is always in the top 5 procedures every month,” says Dr. Dustin Reid. But, Dr. Reid admits that while he and his patients are always very happy with the results, there seemed to be something lacking. “It didn’t really address the flab in the back.
Dr. Reid says it is a common problem for women who are post-pregnancy. “These patients after they have 2-3 kids, the hormones associated with pregnancy just leaves them wider, so we wanted to get rid of that. They want that pre-baby body back and we want them to accomplish that.”
The 360 Solution: Why It’s Revolutionary
Dr. Reid and his medical partner, Dr. Ashley Gordon discovered what they say is a revolutionary procedure in the “Tummy Tuck 360”. The doctors have patterned their procedure after one being used by Dr. Simeon Wall, a plastic surgeon in Shreveport, Louisiana. Reid and Gordon were introduced to the procedure by Wall three years ago. “We both looked at each other and said that is the procedure we have been looking for. “It combines a tummy tuck and liposuction, which has never really been done before,” Dr. Reid says.
The Austin doctors began training on the technique and then implemented it in their own practice. “I would say that it has revolutionized our results,” Dr. Reid says. In the past, the medical community has considered it taboo and dangerous to perform a tummy tuck and liposuction at the same time. “In residency this was just considered gospel that it wasn’t done because of the risks, Reid says. But, Dr. Wall figured out a way to do it.”
Patient safety is the priority at the Austin office, where Reid and Gordon are working to trademark the phrase “Tummy Tuck 360”. Dr. Gordon says patients always have a clear understanding of what is involved. “Obviously, you would never want to create a deformity or a wound. We want to do everything right for the patient.” The doctors say word is spreading about the new 360 technique. It is becoming one of the most popular procedures in their office.
The combo surgery will require more time, about 5-6 hours in surgery. The typical tummy tuck takes about 2-3 hours. The “Tummy Tuck 360” is also more expensive because of the extra hours in the operating room.
The Shrink Wrap Effect
Exercise and diet alone may not help a woman get her pre-baby body back, and those tactics can take a lot of time. With the “Tummy Tuck 360”, the results can be dramatic and fairly quick for the patient. “They wear smaller size clothing and they lose inches. It is like they are back to what they were before the baby,” Dr. Reid says. He has seen total transformations.
Dr. Gordon sees women drop multiple dress sizes. “They go from a 10-12 to a 4-6. It is like shrink wrap for the body,” says Gordon.
The doctors say the surgery helps to achieve the results that most women can’t accomplish on their own by hitting the gym hard. “Lots of women will go back to the gym and do sit ups and it gets worse. They don’t get results because the crunches won’t fix the deflated skin,” Dr. Gordon says. She says that requires a surgical fix to the sagging skin.
