How Men Can Look Their Best in 2012
“The top 5 things men can do to look and feel great in 2012 is a list of specific steps designed for men as they enter into their middle aged years and beyond. When it comes to putting your best foot forward, these tips developed by a board certified plastic surgeon, will help keep you looking your best.
Steps You Can Take to Stay Out of the Doctor’s Office
At the top of Dr. Grant’s list is sunblock. Grant says, “Take care of your skin envelope; use all resources you can to minimize the amount of ultraviolet light that you get.” According to Grant, sunblock is the most important defense against wrinkles. It will help to prevent new wrinkles from developing and existing ones from getting deeper. Applying a sunblock of SPF 15 or higher everyday is an easy way to help your skin stay cancer free and prevent hyper-pigmentation from developing.
“Men need to think about the things they can do to build cardio-vascular fitness and muscle mass”, says Grant. Staying fit by lifting weights and keeping your cardiovascular system in shape is number two on Grant’s list. “The more fit you are and the more muscle you have, the less likely you are to deposit fat areas where men typically gain weight; love handles and fat under the chin,” says Grant.
At number three is a quick and easy solution for looking younger. Grant says consider getting a professional hair stylist to make sure your hair is colored appropriately and not artificially. “Having the right hair color can make men look ten years younger”, says Grant.
How your plastic surgeon can help you stay looking young is through the use of neurotoxins or wrinkle fillers can be especially helpful to men as they get into their 30’s and 40’s and start seeing fine lines and wrinkles on their face, says Grant. Men may want to consider the use of facial fillers such as Botox and Dysport. “These can help, very subtly, restore some of the age related changes in volume of the face and the lines and wrinkles that make us look old before our time,” states Grant.
And last at number five, Dr. Grant says if you are thinking about plastic surgery, be conservative. “You don’t want to overdue it,” says Grant. If a plastic surgery procedure is overdone, Grant states, “You’ll look different, but you’ll look as if you had a plastic surgery operation and not like a more youthful version of yourself.”
