Cosmetic gynecology is a fairly new field of plastic surgery and many women don’t know much about it but are definitely curious. Dr. Christine Hamori, a board certified plastic surgeon from Boston recently presented her topic, ‘New Trends in Cosmetic Gynecology – Augmentation of the Female Genitalia‘ at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) convention in Vancouver, Cananda. Dr. Hamori is a recognized expert in labial rejuvenation and has been featured in popular magazines and made guest appearances on television shows such as “The Doctors” and “The Montel Williams Show”.
Vaginal Rejuvenation Surgery Increasingly Popular
According to ASAPS, cosmetic gynecology procedures are up 5.5 percent from 2010 to 2011. Hamori says about 10 percent of her surgery practice is gynocology related — about 70 percent is labiaplasty and 30 percent is labia majora reductions. She also performs clitoral hood reductions and says she’s starting to see more demand for volume restoration of the mons and labia majora. Hamori says, as women age they lose fatty tissue not only from the face and breasts, but from the pubic area as well. Here, Dr. Hamori discusses volume restoration to the pubic area through fat grafting.
Since many women shave or wax the pubic area, they may find this wrinkling and skin laxity to be less than welcome. This loss of fat manifests in sagginess of the outer lips (labia majora) and mons pubis. Sex may even be uncomfortable due to the loss of natural padding along the pubic bone that fat provides.
Fat Grafting Provides Permanent Results
While some women may prefer to treat this condition with temporary injectable fillers, a more permanent option for filling this area is micro fat grafting. This procedure involves removing fat cells from the lower abdomen, hips or lower back and injecting the skin of the mons pubis and labia majora. The fat fills the pelvic triangle giving a much more youthful and soft appearance.
