In the realm of breast augmentation and revisionary surgery, the use of harvested skin products aid in a variety of issues and complications. Dr. Jason Pozner of Boca Raton, Florida, discusses the unique benefits of using Strattice as a means to correct and enhance breast augmentation in patients with a variety of issues.

The Internal Bra
“The greatest benefit of using Strattice is its unrivaled strength, which can be used to correct weak tissue,” says Pozner. Unlike the competing product, Alloderm, the Strattice tissue affords tensile strength that will better hold up breast implants and keep the intrinsic tissue from failing. Pozner describes the product poignantly as “the internal bra.” In patients where the tissue is weak, Strattice can be implanted to create an internal support structure that will securely maintain breast implants, as well as revise former implants where the tissue has lost strength or has become unable to support them on their own.
Patients with a variety of revisionary issues now have a great option
“Not only does Strattice greatly aid in support measures, but patients suffering from fold displacement, symmastia and laterally displaced breasts now have an answer to these problems,” says Pozner. Whenever the position of the breasts comes into question after breast augmentation, the Strattice tissue can be implemented to adjust positioning of implants in patients whose tissue may not be suitable on it’s own. In symmastia cases, where the breasts come together, surgeons can utilize the strength of Strattice to correct this issue. All patients whose breasts are positioned incorrectly, but may not be capable of undergoing a successful revisionary surgery with former techniques, need no longer worry.
Preliminary Results Show Strattice Beneficial in the Battle Against Capsular Contracture
In addition to the success of using Strattice for revisionary work, Pozner adds, ”the product seemingly aids in the non-recurrence of capsular contracture.” The abnormal response of foreign material in the body is a major problem in breast augmentation procedures, causing anything from minor discomfort to abnormal appearance of breasts and pain. While solutions to these issues are available, the recurrence rate of capsular contracture is generally as high as 30-50%, even after corrective surgery. “What we’re finding when using Strattice is a capsular contracture recurrence rater under 1%,” says Pozner. While the underlying mechanics of this result are still in question, Pozner is greatly pleased with the results of Strattice procedures and it’s seemingly highly effective ability to prevent capsular contracture like never before.
“The godsend patients have been searching for”— Jason Pozner, MD
In addition to the surgical benefits, the Strattice product is also half as expensive to use as the opposing product, Alloderm. Patients can now have revisionary work done effectively with seeming protection against capsular contracture, as well as doing so with a smaller financial burden. “The results so far are tremendously exciting,” says Pozner. “Procedures utilizing Strattice have become a godsend for patients who have had multiple problems.”
