The Plastic Surgery Channel Doctors Elected President and V.P. to ASERF

 

The Plastic Surgery Channel’s William P. Adams, Jr., MD, and J. Peter Rubin MD, were recently elected to two key positions with the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF).

Dr. Adams, a board certified plastic surgeon from Dallas, TX and founder of The Plastic Surgery Channel, will be the new President of ASERF. Dr. Rubin, a board certified plastic surgeon from Pittsburgh, PA and Membership Advisory Board member of The Plastic Surgery Channel, will be the new Vice President of the foundation. Adams and Rubin were presented with their new titles at the 2013 American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s (ASAPS) annual meeting in New York, NY.

 

A Foundation that Benefits Cosmetic Surgery Patients

“The mission of ASERF is to support important research that benefits cosmetic surgery patients. This will be an exciting year for ASERF as we intend to initiate or continue several important research projects. One of those projects is looking at DVT’s (Deep vein thrombosis) and pulmonary embolism in plastic surgery/cosmetic procedures,” says Adams. Deep vein thrombosis is a serious condition because a blood clot can break loose, travel through your bloodstream and lodge in your lungs, blocking your blood flow causing pulmonary embolism.

Dr. Adams is no stranger to research and his previous work has led to new developments and techniques that make breast enlargement and breast reconstruction safer for patients. He developed an irrigation solution for use in clinical breast implant surgery that helps prevent capsular contracture. He is currently conducting additional research on capsular contracture as well as form stable cohesive gel implants, and advanced surgical breast techniques that have shown to improve patient outcomes in breast surgery. Adams is an international authority on breast augmentation and implants. He is invited worldwide to speak to surgeons and to perform live breast surgery classes.

Peter Rubin, MD – Vice President, ASERF

Dr. Rubin is an expert in stem cell research and known for his innovative techniques in breast and body contouring surgery. His work has been published extensively and he has received numerous awards for his research work. Dr. Rubin is also Professor and Chair of the Department of Plastic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, and Founder and Director of the Life after Weight Loss Body Contouring Program. He frequently lectures at institutions across the country and internationally.
