The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) recently released statistics that showed labiaplasty and buttock augmentation procedures were on the rise last year. Labiaplasty procedures were up forty-four percent and buttock augmentation procedures were up fifty-eight percent, a marked increase from the previous year.
Are These Procedures Really that Popular?
Even though the increase seems steep, the actual number of procedures is very low. Not many physicians offer the procedure currently, but perhaps that may be set to change.
Besides the increase in these two areas, total surgical procedures were up 6.5 percent. When considering eleven million procedures were performed in 2013, 6.5 percent is a large increase! Breast augmentation and liposuction again lead the way.
Many surgeons believe with the economy recovering, more people have more disposable income to seek out cosmetic procedures. This surge in patients coming into physician’s office may also describe the interesting increase in labiaplasty and buttock augmentation.
