Plastic surgeons around the world are taking note of a new and more precise way to remove fat and contour the body. It’s called SAFELipo, and it was created and developed by Dr. Simeon Wall Jr., from Shreveport, Louisiana. Dr. Wall Jr., was presented with the prestigious Tiffany Award by the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) at The Aesthetic Meeting in Montreal, Quebec. This honor is awarded only once a year to the physician with the best scientific presentation. The presentation was judged on its topic, relevance, presentation and delivery.

The scientific paper, entitled SAFELipo Outcomes and Complications, involved looking at hundreds of patients who had SAFELipo surgery and then narrowing the study down to about 129 patients who had primary liposuction surgery (first-time liposuction patients).
“We really focused on these patients to see how they came out, how happy they were and if they had any problems,” said Wall.
Besides a high success rate, what Wall found was a zero percent contour deformity. This means none of his patients showed any irregularities or unevenness to the skin, a complication that’s not uncommon with traditional liposuction surgeries. “There has been hundreds of studies on other forms of liposuction and it depends on the different techniques, but it’s widely acknowledged that the contour deformity rate is nowhere near zero,” says Wall.
The acronym SAFE in SAFELipo stands for (Separation Aspiration and Fat Equalization). What makes SAFELipo different from other forms of fat removal is the unwanted fat is removed with less trauma to the tissues, and the remaining fat cells left behind are smoothed out, giving patients a smooth, more natural contour.
Originally, SAFELipo was developed to work on revision liposuction procedures. Dr. Wall soon discovered his new method would benefit all body contouring patients leaving them with less bruising and swelling. Now with this new research, it seems zero irregularities is another significant benefit for patients.
