You can diet and exercise all you want but if you have cellulite, or the cottage cheese look, on your butt or thighs, no amount of weight loss or training would get rid of the dimples. And what’s even worse is that when you finally resort to going to see a plastic surgeon about it, they would also say there was not much they could do about this annoying, ugly problem. However, a new technique is out and FDA approved and both patients and surgeons are singing its praises!

Finally, It Really Works
Dr. Brad Bengtson, of Grand Rapids, Michigan, says, “Cellulite has always been the golden egg in plastic surgery. We finally have a very reproducible, easy technique to correct cellulite.” Cellfina is the first non-laser based, mechanically operated device that selectively releases the bands that cause cellulite. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands that connect from the deep tissue up to the skin and by pulling on it, forms a little dimple on the surface of the skin. In the past, treatments have been focused on smoothing the skin’s surface without addressing the fibrous bands beneath the skin’s surface.

Why It Works
Cellfina uses a microblade to work under the skin’s wavy surface to release the bands. It is done under local anesthesia and most treatments last less than an hour. The microblade divides the little bands so that there is an instant release and correction of the dimple. “The results are immediate and are actually seen on the OR table at the time of the procedure,” says Bengtson. There is little down time, swelling and pain associated with Cellfina treatments making them easy for patients to fit into their busy lives and schedules.
“Cellfina is the best technology for a number of different reasons,” explains Dr. Bengtson, “One, it treats areas that have always been very difficult to treat.” The buttocks and upper thighs have always been hard to treat areas with just laser or liposuction. Cellfina makes these areas that are highly likely to incur cellulite very treatable for the first time in part because the Cellfina technique can suction these loose areas into its machine and make them taught and stable putting the bands in exactly the right position for the microblade to alleviate them.
The Trouble in the Past
Current techniques use lasers to treat the surface of the skin often melting fat and causing the skin to contract which is the exact opposite of what you would like to see happen in an area affected by cellulite. “You want to release the bands that are creating the problem, but you don’t want to do anything that will contract the skin,” explains Bengtson.
The question on every woman’s mind is, will it last? Will the dimples come back? Currently, after one treatment we believe, “As far as we know, it is a one shot deal and recurrence rates are very low,” says Dr. Bengtson.
