No Spin Live host Dr. Melinda Haws of Nashville welcomes board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Laurie Casas of Chicago and Dr. Ashley Gordon of Austin to discuss one of the most talked-about topics in the industry today: breast implant illness. While the FDA recently appointed a task force to cover the more obvious problem of Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma, breast implant illness is trickier to understand.
A non-insignificant number of breast augmentation patients have a loose and varied set of ailments now grouped into what patients and surgeons are calling “breast implant illness.” Patients face ailments similar to a cold or even flu, but chronic. As they have been cleared by family doctors to have no observable illness, patients believe that something to do with their implants may be the cause.
While there has been no evidence to date of a specific illness caused by implants, the number of these patients is too high to shrug it off. Patients are real and so, it would seem, are their symptoms. The No Spin Live panel discusses this situation and how they’re working to help patients affected, and to educate those reading a growing number of news stories about the issue.
