No Spin Live host Dr. William P. Adams Jr. of Dallas welcomes board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Jason Pozner of Boca Raton, Florida, Dr. Melinda Haws of Nashville, and Dr. Dustin Reid of Austin to discuss the latest in plastic surgery news.
The FDA recently convened to discuss the potential threat of textured implants instigating a rare cancer in some breast augmentation patients. Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma is a “new” and rare disease (affecting, at maximum, 1 in 4000 breast augmentation patients) that comes from some sort of interaction with breast implants and the body. Notably, textured breast implants seem to be the overwhelming culprit, so the FDA decided to call upon researchers, scientists, surgeons, and patient advocacy groups to discuss how best to move forward with this issue. The NSL panel takes a look at the issue following the meeting to see what the future holds for textured implants and patient safety.
