New Facial Wrinkle Filler Recently Approved by FDA! Wrinkle fillers come in many forms, and now a new contender is poised to hit the market. Belotero offers a fresh solution for those who want to erase signs of aging without going under the knife. The filler approval was announced Merz Aesthetics in US.
Any product that removes facial wrinkles and folds is guaranteed to draw interest from the aging masses. And once the Food and Drug Administration approves a new injectable gel called Belotero®, cosmetic customers will have another effective option to consider.
What is Belotero?
“BELOTERO Balance® is a soft dermal filler that is designed to achieve meaningful results by integrating into facial skin tissue,” said Rhoda S. Narins, M.D., lead investigator and Clinical Professor of Dermatology at New York University Medical School, New York, N.Y. “With BELOTERO Balance®, patients are able to see a visible softening in their lines for a natural look that lasts.”
Belotero has been already available on the market in Germany, Canada and the United Kingdom with FDA approval being announced on November 16,2011.
“BELOTERO Balance® Dermal Filler is an important addition to our expanding portfolio of aesthetic products in the United States,” said Dennis Condon, President and CEO of Merz Aesthetics, Inc. “The availability of BELOTERO Balance® provides physicians with a new option for patients seeking treatment with a dermal filler.”
A key factor to Belotero is that it contains hyaluronic acid. The human body actually already contains this acid – which is a natural sugar – but can lose it to varying degrees through aging and lifestyle. Losing this substance in the face results in the formation of lines and wrinkles. But, when a plastic surgeon injects Belotero into a patient’s face, the new acid attracts moisture to that area – a process that creates a filler there and diminished shes signs of aging.
Why do we need another facial wrinkle filler?
Chief Medical Officer of The Plastic Surgery Channel, William P. Adams Jr. MD commented, “It’s great to have another soft tissue filler available as it expands options for patients. Every filler is different and may be a better choice for particular patients. We recently reported on a similar situation with the recent approval of Xeomin (also from Merz).
According to the latest information, Belotero is expected to be reasonably priced and offer a quickly fix to fight facial aging, with treatments taking only up to 30 minutes. Similar to other filler products, the results last up to 12 months.
Merz Aesthetics, Inc. is a division of German-based Merz Pharmaceuticals. The Merz Aesthetics Business Unit has subsidiaries in 17 countries and cooperates with more than 30 distributors worldwide.
