“Pregnancy can transform a woman’s body to something they don’t recognize,” says Dr. Stafford Broumand, a board certified plastic surgeon from New York City. “They will say, I get the face, my feet are fine, but between here and there they are thinking to themselves, this is not what I bought into… what happened?” Dr. Broumand is talking about the changes that take place in a woman’s body after pregnancy.
This is a struggle for many women and sometimes no matter how hard you diet or exercise, nothing will bring back the stretched out abdomen or sagging breasts. This is when a mommy makeover can make a huge difference in a woman’s body and her confidence!

What exactly is a Mommy Makeover?
Dr. Broumand says the term “mommy makeover ” can mean anything from having one procedure to several procedures. “We can address the abdomen, the breast, or a combination of both, along with liposuction, for problematic areas that have developed as a consequence of having kids.”
One of the most common areas women have problems with is the abdomen, whether it’s stretched out skin or muscles that have separated. Exercise and diet alone can’t heal overly stretched skin and muscles that have separated.
A woman’s beasts will also go through significant changes after pregnancy and breast feeding. “It ends up being an empty envelope of skin with very little breast tissue,” says Broumand. After evaluating the patient, Dr. Broumand can tell you whether you need a lift, an augmentation, or a combination of the two procedures.
Another procedure gaining popularity that works for some patients is adding fat to the breast, either around an implant or in place of an implant. This can be a bonus two-for-one procedure for the typical mommy makeover patient. The surgeon can take fat from one area of your body and place it where you’ve lost volume in the breasts or the face.
Restore Your Body and Your Confidence
All of these dramatic body changes can take another toll. Many times women don’t recognize themselves and psychologically they can become a little down. “That’s why we have a mommy makeover; they’ve sacrificed themselves for their kids, now they can get their bodies back,” says Broumand.
Dr. Broumand takes a lifestyle approach with his mommy makeover patients. He says it’s important to follow through with patients and make sure they can keep the results they got with surgery.
He helps his patients by incorporating a dietician, a trainer, and supplements to help maintain a healthy lifestyle. “We want to give them additional knowledge and tools they can use as a prelude to surgery so that our results are maintained.”
Don’t beat yourself up if you’re feeling uncomfortable with certain aspects of your body because there is something that can be done. Mommy makeover results are truly transformative. See a board certified plastic surgeon to find out your options.
