Episode 2 of No Spin Live IBSA, the International Breast Surgery Alliance (IBSA), features IBSA members Dr. Roy de Vita of Rome, Italy and Dr. Christoph Andree of Dusseldorf, Germany.
In this episode, the experts discuss the Superior Health Council of Italy deciding not to ban specific implants linked to a rare form of cancer Breast Implant-Associated Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphnia (ALCL), but will increase efforts to collect and disseminate information about risks involving the device. Their recommendation stems from lack of scientific data to ban these types of implants but have strongly agreed that more study needs to be done. While there have been 50 million of successful breast implant procedures performed with no results of illnesses, the experts agree that surgeons need to be educated more on this matter and the scientific society must do their part to study the issue at hand. With patient health and safety being the number one concern for these experts, the NSL panel discusses how surgeons must take responsibility and find a solution for this issue.
