Male Pec Implants – The Truth

Male Pec Implants – The Truth

There have been increases in the number of men who want to enhance their bodies through cosmetic surgery. Many men who can’t achieve their desired results from working out or can’t find the time to make it to the gym rely on pectoral implant surgery to enhance the appearance of their bodies.  Others undergo the procedure to correct both congenital and physical defects. One of the most popular procedures today among men,  pectoral implants are used to shape, enlarge, and firm the upper chest.

Male Pectoral Implants: An Overview

Male pectoral implants are made of silicone and are placed underneath the pectoral muscles. Unlike female breast implants, which are filled with liquid, the male silicone implant is soft, but solid. Pec implant surgery is usually done on an outpatient basis. The patient will be allowed to go home after the surgery following strict instructions from their surgeons. Depending on one’s body, the healing process can take as long as six weeks.

Risks and Complications

Like any other surgeries, getting male pec implants may pose certain risks. Complications may include the displacement of the implants, infections, hematoma, seroma, and numbness of the inner upper arm.  Due to the stress placed on the pectoral muscles during everyday activities, there is a likelihood that the implant will shift after surgery.

In worst-case scenarios, the implants would be removed permanently to prevent further medical problems. It is also important to remember that while going through the healing stage, one is discouraged from smoking as this decreases blood flow to the skin and tissues as this will increase the risk of poor healing, skin sloughing and scabbing or crusting. Permanent scarring may also occur as a result of smoking.

Considerations

Very few surgeons perform pectoral implant surgery because it is a relatively new procedure that requires a high level of expertise and aesthetic skill.  Because male pec implants are solid, it is necessary to shape them before insertion. It is pertinent that your surgeon have the expertise to properly shape the implant so that it appears natural for your body type.  It is also critical to find an experienced surgeon who can minimize or eliminate the risk of shifting after the surgery.
