John Hammarley
Ever since his father received the world’s first two heart transplants in 1968, John Hammarley knew the worlds of journalism and medicine would be permanently intertwined in his life. And he was right.
John has focused most of his journalism career covering all aspects of medicine, winning dozens of professional awards along the way – including five EMMY® Awards, four top awards from the National Association of Medical Communicators and top national recognition from the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and the American Academy of Dermatology. John also served as science news editor at the Journal of the American Medical Association, senior correspondent for Medical News Network in New York and served as the long-time medical reporter for FOX 4 News in Dallas. He concentrated a large portion of his work on advances in plastic surgery as well as producing video content for several plastic surgeons since leaving FOX 4 News in Dallas.
A proud Midwesterner, John grew up in Chicago, and graduated with honors from the University of California, Berkeley (A.B.) and the University of Missouri-Columbia (M.A.) He lives in Bend, OR.
