Let’s face it. If you are looking for a quick and easy way to refresh a tired look, an eyelid lift may be the right choice. An eye lift or Blepharoplasty is one of the most common cosmetic procedures because it produces effective results in a short amount of time. Dr. Ned Snyder discusses why the eye lift is so popular and how it delivers a boost to those seeking a remedy for aging.

The Eyes Have It
This surgery is usually performed for cosmetic reasons. It reduces bagginess from the lower eyelids and helps to remove the excess skin from the upper eyelids. It can also help improve sight in some older people whose sagging skin is getting in the way of proper vision. When skin ages it looses it’s elasticity, it starts to collect on the upper and lower eyelids. That’s why in growing numbers, people are stepping up to have this skin removed. “One of our most common and quick cosmetic procedures that we perform is an upper eyelid blepharoplasty,” says Dr. Ned Snyder. Snyder, is a board-certified plastic surgeon who practices in Austin, Texas.
Dr. Snyder says the eye lift procedure is relatively simple. “It is all done under a local anesthetic in my office. And within about 7 days the swelling and bruising is down and in about 14 days no one will know that you have had surgery, even if they are looking.”
Candidates For An Eye Lift
The best way to determine if you are a good candidate for an eye lift is to look in the mirror. If you are bothered by droopy skin around your eyes, then the procedure could be right for you. Most people who seek the surgery are over 35, but Dr. Snyder says family history can play a role. “Genetics are a big part of eye aging. Some people really show age in the lower lid and some people don’t.” A good time to consider the procedure is when makeup will no longer mask the tired look.
“The people who seek it are often those with dark circles or shading around the eyes. It helps them improve that lower lid contour.” Dr. Snyder adds that surgery for the upper lid and the lower lid is a bit different. The lower lid recovery time is more extended. “Recovery time for the lower lid is a little more extensive, but having this surgery will improve the look of the eye. You can wipe 10 years off your appearance.”
What Results Can I Expect
Eyelid surgery can be a great confidence booster. An upper lid procedure may last years. A lower eye lid surgery may never have to be repeated, according to some experts. Your surgeon may also recommend other procedures to improve the facial appearance, like laser resurfacing.
Dr. Snyder says the eye lift is a procedure that leaves patients wide-eyed and thrilled with the end result. “It is a simple, quick cosmetic procedure.”
