In this PSC Case Files, board certified plastic surgeons Dr. Richard Restifo of Orange, Connecticut and Dr. Douglas Steinbrech of New York City discuss a patient of Dr. Restifo’s who came to him looking to finalize her massive weight loss journey. Unfortunately, losing all of the weight is only half of the battle. The skin that was stretched out by the body to contain all of the weight does not contract, but rather hangs loosely on the body. This can be depressing for a patient who has worked tirelessly to become a normal weight, or even fit, but unable to see the results.
Typically, massive weight loss patients will face significant skin excision, some degree of liposuction, potentially a tummy tuck, and maybe even a breast lift and/or an augmentation. That’s a tall order, making this groupings of procedures complex and tasking for the surgeon. Dr. Restifo goes through what this specific patient was facing and details what he chose to do to help finalize her weight loss journey.
